History
SPavlou Taekwondo has been changing lives through martial arts training for over four decades. Established in 1980, our school has long been at the heart of the Pine Brook, Hanover, and Parsippany communities.
Our academy was founded by Grand Master Solomon Pavlou. For Grand Master Pavlou, Taekwondo is not an activity, a hobby, or even a career. Rather, it is a way of life. Born in Cyprus, Grand Master Pavlou began his martial arts training in 1973 under Grand Master Ki Chung Kim and hasn’t stopped right at 50 years later! He currently holds a Kukkiwon 8th degree Black Belt, a 1st level International Masters, and a 1st level Examinors from Kukkiwon, which he received under world-renowned martial artist Grand Master Ki Chung Kim – a Korean National Championship winner, 9th degree black belt, member of the U.S. Naval Academy Hall of Fame, and instructor at SPavlou Taekwondo. Grand Master Pavlou has competed in over 500 tournaments, is a 1st class master and a 1st class kukkiwon examiner, and was inducted into the Official Taekwondo Hall of Fame in 2017.
However, it wasn’t until moving to the U.S. that Grand Master Pavlou realized his dream wasn’t to be a Taekwondo practitioner, but a Taekwondo instructor. Grand Master Pavlou is passionate about getting to know each of his students and helping them reach their individual goals. Throughout his long career as a martial arts instructor, he has watched Taekwondo help countless students find themselves and discover their passions. His students have gone on to become successful martial artists, doctors, lawyers, and everything in between! No matter the path his students end up taking, Grand Master Pavlou believes that Taekwondo instills values and habits that allow them to reach their greatest potential.
