Grand Master Ki Chung Kim was one of the first Korean Tae Kwon Do instructors to teach in the United States. Born in Nonsan, Korea, Master Kim wanted to study Tae Kwon Do at an early age. But he felt that he was not strong enough so he spent a year lifting weights and training in the basic movements of Tae Kwon Do. It worked, and he was collegiate champion in 1965 and the national Korean Middleweight Tae Kwon Do champion in 1967.
Master Kim came to America in June 1968 and taught at the Cranford Judo and Karate Center with Yoshisada Yonezuka. He then started Tae Kwon Do schools in Allentown PA, Orange NJ, and West Orange, NJ, and taught classes at Rutgers University and Morris County Community College.
Master Kim’s noteworthy students include Mark Williams, Keith Kelly, Herbert Perez and Yusuf Bilal. He belongs to the Korean Tae Kwon Do Association, US Tae Kwon Do Federation, and the World Tae Kwon Do Association. Kim’s brother, Jon Chung Kim, won the 1970 Korea National Championship and also teaches at S. Pavlou Academy.
Starting his journey with the martial arts as a young boy, Jon Chung Kim went on to become the Korean National Champion in 1970. Arriving in the United States in 1975, he reunited with his brother, Ki Chung Kim.
Jon Chung Kim rose through the ranks to obtain the title of Grand Master. He holds an 9th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 9th degree in Moo Duk Kwon, a 4th degree in Hop Ki Do, and a 1st degree in Judo.
Teaching the value of living a good life, Grand Master Kim tries to lead by example. He serves as an elder in his church and has led yearly missionary trips to the Yucatan since 1997.
